Michael Le Grand has been working in steel since graduating from the Victorian College of Arts in 1974. Following further studies at St Martin’s School of Art, London, Michael was chosen for the Australia Council Travel Grant in 1975 and awarded the Australian National University Creative Arts Fellowship in 1978. In 1997 he was co-winner of Sculpture by the Sea and received the actARTS Creative Arts Fellowship and the Capital Arts Fellowship. Michael has traveled widely participating in residencies and sculpture symposiums in Canada, USA, Germany and Japan. Michael was appointed Head of Sculpture at Canberra's ANU School of Art in 1998 and has been lecturing in Sculpture since 1980. He has enjoyed successful solo exhibitions nationally and internationally and shown in many major sculpture exhibitions. His sculpture is represented in private collections and public commissions throughout Australia and overseas. Michael was awarded the University of Western Sydney Sculpture Award in 2004. This year Michael has been chosen to exhibit work at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi and the McClelland Sculpture Survey and Award, Victoria.
