Anita Larkin Born in Australia 1971 Anita Larkin has been exhibiting regularly with Defiance Gallery since 2002, in Defiance group shows and their annual miniature exhibition, and is working towards a solo show with the gallery in 2009. Completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of The Arts in 1993, Larkin has since exhibited in numerous exhibitions around Australia, as well as in the Hungarian National Gallery during 2004. Bodily Felt, her first solo show, was shown at Project Contemporary Art Space, Wollongong in 1997. Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi has featured her distinctive sculptures in 2002 and 2003, with her sculpture whirl being awarded the exhibition’s Allens Arthur Robinson People’s Award in 2002. Larkin has been a selected finalist for The University of Western Sydney Sculpture prize in 2004 and 2006. She has also been a finalist in The Wynne Prize at the AGNSW in 2006 and 2008. Wollongong City Gallery awarded her The 2006 Artist’s Residency culminating in a solo exhibition Object Incognito in 2007. Her work is represented in both private and public collections, including the Lady Ethel Nock Sculpture Collection, Macquarie University Sculpture Park, and Westmead Hospital. ‘I transform the collected object into sculptures evoking a human narrative, revealing a strange beauty within the forgotten and discarded. The works display a wry sense of wit and humour, and play with the suggestion of physical movement or a practical function for the hitherto inanimate object.’ Anita Larkin 2007
