John Wright began his career studying drawing at painting at TAFE, and then decided to focus on sculpture, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, Sydney in 2004. Wright is best known for his playful animal sculptures, the outlines of hares, camels and so on traced in wire, for small works, and in brightly painted steel for his large outdoor pieces.
Wright's work has been chosen for a number of important group exhibitions, including Sculpture in the Vineyards, the Willoughby Sculpture Prize and the Sawmillers Sculpture exhibition. Wright is a regular presence in Defiance Gallery's group exhibitions, particularly the annual Miniature Sculpture Show.
