Exhibition Text

Notes From the Artist

This exhibition encapsulates my time spent at the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and residency at Newhaven, northwest of Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory. In the wake of unprecedented rainfall, I found myself immersed in a quiet resurgence of the Australian desert, a land often defined by its dryness, now transformed into a landscape pulsating with unexpected colour, texture, movement and life.

During my residency, I observed not only the blooming of flora and the soft golden rise of the seeding spinifex, but the intricate choreography of nature's regenerative forces. Seeds, long dormant in the soil, stirred to life and carried by the wind, birds, animals, fire and even swept along by floodwaters, all part of the cycle of loss and renewal.

Central to my art making, is the observation of movement and sound, a rhythm and hum of the wind that moves the tall spinifex, the haunting sound of wind as it passes through the desert oak, flirting with each and every leaf, and the invisible paths of airborne seeds as they drift and settle to populate the soil. This natural communication between land, climate and life.

This body of work honours the desert not as empty, but as deeply alive - a place where silence speaks of survival and where every gust of wind carries the promise of transformation.
