SIX ARTISTS | SEVEN DAYS is a celebration of the Australian landscape from the perspectives of both the artist and the scientist. The exhibition features work by six leading Australian artists who were invited to spend a week at the Mornington Sanctuary in the Central Kimberley. The artists worked en plein air and explored the 320,000 hectares of protected wilderness working closely with scientists from the AWC Mornington Research Centre.
AWC is a registered not for profit organisation whose mission is the effective conservation of all Australian animals and their habitats. AWC manages 23 sanctuaries covering over three million hectares across Australia. 80% of the AWC staff work on the ground implementing conservation programs such as fire management and strategic scientific research to help turn back the tide of extinction.
All six artists have donated a major work in response to their experiences, the proceeds of which will go, in full, to the AWC. An exhibition of over 80 additional works from the trip will be curated by Defiance Gallery and will be for commercial sale.
Join us for two special events during the exhibition: Sunday 11 August 3pm : Floor talks with the artists and resident scientists from the AWC Mornington Sanctuary
Saturday 17 August 5.30 for 6pm : Premiere of Jason Capobianco's documentary SIX ARTISTS | SEVEN DAYS. Featuring footage from the Mornington Sanctuary expedition as well as studio interviews with each of the artists and John McDonald, art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald.
